Only Human 04:26
Well the first change of the season left me breathing in the cold From my forehead ran a feeling down to the bottom of my toes The shiver left me senseless and to a waking light I rose I poured two cups of coffee and headed out upon the road A sudden light surprised me, my eyes turned toward the dash Not sure if I would lose control, or if I already had Two minutes passed in silence as twenty years before me flashed I thought of all the good times, the memories, the symphonies, The liturgies and the scuffed-up knees we had Come rain, come shine I don't care, I'm wrapped up in the back It's been eight months I've been working here and I'm starting to collapse But only fourteen days 'til I can meet you on the map And wrap up all of my hair-brained words into your open hand But one thing I must tell you before we run the mill There's parts of us we can't understand and maybe never will But through this morning fog follow the light on a distant hill Those constant changes constantly, we're borderline, we're feeling fine, We change our mind you know we're only human My heart is filled with anger, its rising up inside But it's not something I'd show to you, no it's just something I hide It takes me to dark places that otherwise I cannot find Yeah I've spent my share of seasons living outside of the light That constant crowd of questions keep creeping in my mind Is this feeling normal? Am I running out of time? Those fractions of an inch between where we draw the line Sure some call it dangerous, but I just call it living, breathing, Eating, sleeping, loving, scheming life

It's On 03:14
Off the wheel I'm a useless vessel I can't hold water, myself together Off the press I'm a broken record I ain't got nothing but repeat pleasure All my engines are turning over The feeling's gone, I'm just growing older All the grass on the greener side I just feel the pressure of growing mine It's on I ain't got nothing, no ace in my hand Just these racing thoughts, but you got your plans

What is your passion, is it running the race Is it seeing the lines drawn on the road From where you are back the place That you were for a little while and now you're gone Do you have an answer to the people who say, How far will you go And how long is this gonna take Well I don't know, they don't care, you refuse to wait 'Cause if you lose your hold on the moment You might hesitate So pack your bags and grab what money you have And listen to those words echo as you walk away Maybe it's the scream of the railroad tracks Speaking the language of your heart Maybe it's the look of the shadows of the trees Passing on the hood of your car Maybe it's the blue of those wide open skies Bigger than the back of your mind Maybe it's the hand that you felt in the dark Reaching from the other side Whatever it is you got to drive You ain't gonna sit around and waste no more time Where is the beauty, is it feeling the pain Is it keeping track of all the loss All the motion and the change You're moving a mile a minute now Are you feeling pleasure with the wind in your face Is it casting your cares to the breeze Leaving behind miles of red tape Wrapped around the eyes of the people who don't see it the same And if you lose your sight of the future There ain't no cause to be afraid Simply close your eyes, point your finger to the map And listen to those words as they fade away Maybe it's the scream of the railroad tracks Speaking the language of your heart Maybe it's the look of the shadows of the trees Passing on the hood of your car Maybe it's the blue of those wide open skies Bigger than the back of your mind Maybe it's the hand that you felt in the dark Reaching from the other side Whatever it is you got to drive You ain't gonna sit around and waste no more time

What is this breath of life You breathed into these dusty bones last night I swear I saw the spirit move Passing through the shadows of my mind Something so new as life Ain't nothing quite stranger than the truth Opposed to lies That snake their way into our minds And I see it clearly 'cause I heard it in the wind It whispered in my eardrums, I Am as I have always been What are those lights up in the sky Keeping track of days and nights I ain't never seen something so bright All those glitzy glamour queens don't Look half as nice as what I see From where my body lies And as they move, I also move Guide me through this strange new world I see it clearly in the light of the sun It's written in the sky now, I Am will guide you home What is this clear and cooling flow Rushing through my fingers That I can't seem to hold And every time I grip tighter it just seems to go Away, running down the mountains And cutting valleys on it's way To the sea Never gets tired in the mid-day heat And I see it clearly in the crashing of the waves Like a tree by the water, I Am is your strength What is this pull from rib to rib Woke from sleep I must be dreaming Hands move to fit inside a song Words cannot express this moment Your bones belong to mine Close within this restless ocean Flesh of my flesh I do reside Deep within your heart of hearts And I see it clearly in the pulsing in my chest It's written on my heart now, I Am is your rest And I see it clearly, 'cause I heard it in the wind It whispered in my eardrum, I Am and I will always be

I'm sitting in a studio of artists They're telling me I got to be their friend They want me to give them all my money For the sake of living On the edge of something they say only they can understand I'm staring at their photographs of mountains Wondering at which point they meet the sky Wishing we were standing up there on them So I could see with my own eye Instead of the memory, the vantage point of some other guy The photo tells me nothing of this man Or the girl who stands of to his side No clues to the world that he's forsaken To capture this moment in time I bet that he regrets every time he hears that camera rewind The woman she is beautiful and patient Always giving all she has to him Willing to be pushed out of the picture For the sake of that man making a living Off the beauty that was created by somebody else's hand I know I take advantage of your loving Just like this man did to his better half But I no longer want to push you to the corners For the sake of getting one good photograph I want to take you everywhere and loving you 'til there ain't no loving left And we might cry and cry and cry until we learn to laugh Yeah we might cry and cry and cry until we learn to laugh

This is how it starts With a thought that you thought you thought but never really did Tell me how you are The last time that we talked I wasn't really listening All I could think about was how beautiful you are The butterflies and stars Painted in the sky And reflected on your skin The fragments of our hearts Broken up by past and present experiences The piecing back together of which is wholly miraculous I can only guess Why sometimes God he answers prayers And sometimes he don't But through this awful mess That we mistakenly perceive As living flesh and bones He is working to once again bring us home
